Pitching Runs Created, Fantasy-Challenge Leaders after Division Series
Standing firmly on the shoulders of THT’s David Gassko, we’ve finally run the numbers for playoff Pitching Runs Created. David was kind enough to help us with the formula, and since The Hardball Times isn’t publishing PRC stats for the playoffs, we figured we should. One note: For pitchers who have not allowed any runs (yet) in the playoffs, we had to use an alternate approach for calculating their PRC that David suggested, so you may see some variance in those pitchers’ totals later in the postseason. Through the Division Series, here are the top 20 pitchers in PRC (we also have the entire spreadsheet available):
| # | PLAYER | TEAM | PRC |
| 1 | Josh Beckett | BOS | 12.1 |
| 2 | Fausto Carmona | CLE | 10.9 |
| 3 | Brandon Webb | ARI | 8.5 |
| 4 | Curt Schilling | BOS | 7.6 |
| 5 | Andy Pettitte | NYY | 6.9 |
| 6 | Carlos Zambrano | CHC | 6.6 |
| 7 | Ubaldo Jimenez | COL | 6.4 |
| 8 | Rafael Perez | CLE | 6.4 |
| 9 | Phil Hughes | NYY | 5.9 |
| 10 | Mariano Rivera | NYY | 5.1 |
| 11 | Jamie Moyer | PHI | 4.8 |
| 12 | Livan Hernandez | ARI | 4.8 |
| 13 | Jeff Francis | COL | 4.0 |
| 14 | Manny Corpas | COL | 3.5 |
| 15 | Cole Hamels | PHI | 3.3 |
| 16 | Scot Shields | LAA | 3.2 |
| 17 | Bob Howry | CHC | 3.2 |
| 18 | Brandon Lyon | ARI | 3.2 |
| 19 | Jose Valverde | ARI | 3.2 |
| 20 | Jered Weaver | LAA | 2.8 |
As you may remember, we’re using PRC in our first-annual Playoff Fantasy Baseball Challenge. After the Division Series, Hoish (Steve Hirsch), the Redbirds (Robert McMillen) and the Flying Deathkillers (Brian Flaspohler) lead the pack of contestants who entered at the outset of the postseason. Led by strong pitching — Beckett, Carmona, Pettitte and Webb — those three teams created 82.3, 74.9 and 66.7 runs through the Division Series. There’s plenty of baseball left for the other teams to catch up, but Hoish is sitting pretty with five of his batters and five of his pitchers still active (you can see everyone’s lineup on this spreadsheet). Nobody (including us) picked two of the most prolific run creators of the Division Series, Kaz Matsui (5.3) and Stephen Drew (6.2) or rookie Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (6.4).

Well, as usual, my predictions (The Elder’s Minions) have failed miserably.

Good thing we’re not playing for money, eh?

Wait a minute! What happened to that $100 bill you required from me to get into this little contest???

That was your entry fee. Nobody ever said anything about the ability to win it back.

How ’bout SOME of it back?
