Vuch, Strauss headline upcoming Bob Broeg SABR Chapter’s Hot Stove Luncheon

The annual Hot Stove Luncheon of the Bob Broeg SABR Chapter will be Saturday, Jan. 26, at Mike Shannon’s Steaks and Seafood, 620 Market Street, downtown St. Louis. Doors open at 11:30am, with a ballpark-style buffet lunch starting at noon.

Guest speakers this year include:

  • Frank Baumann: 1952 Grad/ Central High School…$85,000 Bonus Baby with the Boston Red Sox in 1952, 11 years in majors, 45-38 with Red Sox and Chicago White Sox
  • Ric Lessmann: 1955 Grad/Southwest High School…signed with Yankees..pitched one year in minors…became one of the winningest college coaches ever at St. Louis Community College-Meramec and Washington University….1,365 wins in 45 years as a head coach….among his former players who played in the major leagues are Scott Bailes, Neil Fiala, Brian Boehringer, T.J. Mathews, and Scarborough Green.
  • John Vuch: St. Louis Cardinals farm director; saw the Cardinals selected by Baseball America as Organization of the Year in 2011
  • Joe Strauss: Columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and former beat writer covering the Cardinals.

The program will include research presentations by SABR members, open baseball discussions, and a trivia quiz with prizes.

The day is also designated as SABR Day in America for SABR chapters across the country. Those interested in becoming a SABR member can receive information about the organization that day as well.

    Strauss at a SABR event? Man, I wish I could get up there to see that!

    Remember that SABR is a fairly diverse and magnanimous group. Not everyone will have been offended by Joe’s “spreadsheet mafia” barbs. 🙂
